MELODY FOWLER ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR ARLINGTON CITY COUNCIL
Longtime Arlington resident, educator, and current Arlington ISD Board of Trustees member Melody Fowler today announced she will run for the Arlington City Council seat in District 8, the position currently held by Council Member Barbara Odom-Wesley, who has announced her retirement at the end of her term.
A 38-year educator, Fowler currently serves as Director of Student Support, Programs, and Services and Professor at Arlington Baptist University. She has represented Arlington ISD Place 2 on the school board for eight years, including serving as board president and secretary. In 2025, she completed the additional year-long training required to be named a Master Trustee by the Texas Association of School Boards (Class of 2025).
On the AISD Board, Melody has served on the Audit, Finance, Academic, Community Relations, and Governmental Committees. As board president, she helped craft the district’s budget and led the Board through challenging times for schools.
Melody serves on the boards of Arlington Charities, the AISD Education Foundation, and as Vice-Chair of the Mayor’s Education Coalition. She is a past board member of Arlington Life Shelter, Open Arms Clinic, and MPAC Arlington. She has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Arlington for eight years and is a member of First Baptist Church Arlington.
“I am running for City Council to keep the city economically strong and efficient with taxpayers’ dollars,” said Fowler. “I am grateful for Council Member Odom’s years of leadership and service to the city, and I look forward to building on that foundation to keep Arlington moving forward.”
“I will focus my efforts on keeping Arlington’s crime rate low, creating excellent jobs, and attracting new businesses, so that Arlington residents can pay lower property taxes.”
Melody has called Arlington home for 25 years. She and her husband, Larry, have been married for 30 years and are the proud parents of their son, Brennan, age 26. Fowler will file for the District 8 seat when the filing period opens for the May 2026 Arlington municipal election.
